ABOUT OUR CULTURE

Paraguay is a landlocked country in the heart of South America, home to large swaths of swampland, subtropical forest and chaco. 

The capitol, Asuncion, is one of the oldest cities in South America and the largest in Paraguay.

Guarani is one of the official languages of Paraguay along with spanish where it is spoken by 90% of the population, some speak "Jopara", which is a mixture of the two languages.

Some facts about Paraguay:

- The plant Stevia rebaudiana has been used for more than 1,500 years by the Guarani people of South America.

- Passion Flower (Mburucuya in Guarani) is the national flower.

- The Guarani Aquifer is one of the world's largest aquifer systems  and is an important source of fresh water.

- Itaipu hydroelectric power plant produced the most energy of any in the world as of 2,016, setting a new world record of 103,098,366 Kwh.

- Terere or Mate is an infusion of Yerba Mate which is a very popular drink all year round.

- Last one but not least, people are very kind, humble, friendly and ready to help in any way that you may need.
